On Trust
I am confident in my capacities
to be what I say I’m going to be
when I’m going to be it,
to do what I say I’m going to do,
when I’m going to do it.
I trust myself
because I know myself.
I know myself
because I show myself
what I am.
My integrity is what makes me trustworthy.
My trustworthiness is why
I trust you and why
I trust life.
3 ideas + 3 questions on trust
Trust brings confidence to the ability to predict the integrity of being and doing. As an imagined prophecy, trust forecasts the good future of reality. Trust does not walk blindly into possibility. Trust finds its confidence with leverage in probabilities. Trust uses inheritance and instinct to frame judgements with certainty. Trust befriends authenticity with a willingness for vulnerability in matters of practicality. Trust comes from the heart and starts with trust in the self.
Self-trust is about your confidence in your integrity. Integrity is grounded in wholeness which depends on your capacity to fully and authentically know your self. Knowing your self is about:
knowing what you are — you know your values, beliefs, strengths, weaknesses, dreams and goals because you have chosen them.
doing what you know — your actions are guided by behaviors and skills you have chosen.
creating alignment between your being and doing — your words and actions are congruent and authentic.
being aware you make mistakes and when you make mistakes, you own and honor your imperfect competence. Self-knowledge walks the path with self-forgiveness.
being truthful and authentic in your being and doing because you have chosen to walk a path of lifelong growth and development.
With self-trust you become trustworthy. With trustworthiness people are willing to trust you. With trustworthiness, you become discerning with trust. You value trustworthiness in others. You trust the trustworthy and forgive the untrustworthy. And somewhere along the way you find a willingness to surrender all trust to trust in life.
