On Rest
To replenish your well,
make time with your time
to feel good about
achieving absolutely nothing.
3 ideas + 3 questions on rest
Rest is the business of being and doing as much of nothing as possible. Rest is the exercise of letting go of time and motion. Rest is the refuge of restoration, relaxation and rejuvenation. Rest synchronizes mind, body and spirit with the natural harmonies of life outside of time and unrelenting direction. Rest draws the fullness of attention into the beauty of silence in the world within and outside of you. The rewards of rest are refreshment and replenishment of the energy you’ve used sharing your presence, being and doing in the world.
3 ways you can apprentice yourself to rest:
Rest is an essential ingredient of living well. Rest needs to be practiced regularly and fully (i.e. once a week).
Rest has one objective: to restore your energy. Anything that requires an extensive amount of energy is not rest (e.g. a vacation is not a rest, entertainment is not rest).
Rest is enjoyable. Being and doing nothing needs to feel good. If you are unaccustomed to resting, you may need to learn how to feel good about it.
3 questions on rest:
Do you resist making time for rest? If so, why?
Are you comfortable doing absolutely nothing for one hour, once a week?
How do you know when you are exhausted/rested?
3 insights on rest
Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.
Rest is the conversation between what we love to do and how we love to be.
Rest when you’re weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work.
