On Friendship
To celebrate the spirit of generosity,
in the shared creation of joy, laughter and belonging,
in the comfort from loneliness, fear, sadness and isolation.
To see and to be seen, to know and to be known,
to understand and to be understood.
May you be blessed with friendship.
May you be blessed with the continued presence of good friends.
May you be blessed with the consistency of being a good friend.
May you be blessed with the consistency of being a good friend to yourself.
3 ideas + 3 questions on friendship, from me.
Friendship is a beautiful relationship of bonding in mutual generosity, affection, admiration, love and respect. Each friendship is a world of its own, rich with opportunities for shared growth and development. Each friendship creates new possibilities for shared virtues, understanding, knowing and belonging in the world. On the journey of becoming and getting to know good friends, we become more of ourselves when we get to know who each of us is showing up to be in the friendship we are co-creating. We are not deliberately educated in school on the subject of friendships. If we want to know what it means to be a good friend, to have good friends, and to create lifelong friendships, we need to do the work. We need to understand the meaning of friendship and bring our understanding to life as a good friend in our cultivation of deep friendships.
