Journey of a Lifetime

In the journey of journeys
there are two.

In the great big world out there, your outer journey.
In the great big world in there, your inner journey.

In your outer world, journey together.
In your inner world, journey alone.

To journey well, journey alone.
To journey well, journey together.

In the journey of journeys,
journey as one.

3 ideas + 3 questions on the journey of life, from me.
Your journey of life is yours to take. If you are hyper-independent, you might decide to do everything on your journey alone. And without help from a trusted council, you might not get very far. If you are not independent enough, you might make someone else responsible for all or parts of a journey only you are meant to take. In expecting someone else to complete part of your process, you might not get very far. Part of the process is understanding which parts of the journey you need to take on your own and which parts of the journey you need to take in the company of others.

Three action-oriented ideas on bringing more life to your journey:

  1. Take a blank page and divide it in half lengthwise. On left column heading write the words My Inner Journey. Beneath this column, write out all of the things you know you are meant to accomplish in your inner journey before your life is complete. Continue on the backside of the page if needed. In the right column heading, write the words Solo or Council. Next to each item in the left column, identify in the right column if you are meant to accomplish the item by yourself or with help from one of your trusted “councils”. Identify the name of the council where appropriate (e.g. relationship, friend, therapist, men’s group, women’s group, career council etc.).

  2. Take a new blank page. On the left column heading write My Outer Journey. Repeat step one. In both instances, when you are working to imagine the life journey you are creating: be bold, be adventurous, be courageous.

  3. Identify 2 things from each page you have not started and/or do not have the council support you need. In each instance, you are certain today this are mission critical for you to have the best life journey possible. In the next 5 days, put into action what you need to create momentum in each of these areas.

To inquire upon your journey:

  1. Where are you overly independent in your inner journey and what one thing can you do in the next week to change this?

  2. Where are you overly independent in your outer journey and what one thing can you do in the next week to change this?

  3. What parts of your inner and/or outer journey do you know you are meant for that you are refusing to take today?
